Candidate Physical Agility Testing |

THE CITY OF FRANKLIN HAS COMPLETED ITS FIRST PASS/FAIL TESTING FOR NEW CANDIDATES. THE TEST WAS COMPLETED AUGUST 14TH. THE NEXT STEP FOR THE CANDIDATES IS THE WRITTEN EXAM GIVEN BY THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION. THE CITY OF FRANKLIN IS PROUDLY LICENSED BY THE IAFF.
CPAT consist of eight events. The first event is the stair stepper. The candidate must do 3 minutes on the event carrying a 50 lb vest with two 12.5 lb. weights on their shoulders to simulate a high rise pack for a total of 75 lbs. After dismounting the stair stepper the 12.5 lb. weights are removed off their shoulders before advancing. The second event, the hose drag. The candidate will drag hose around a barrel and into a box outlined on the ground. The candidate then pulls the hose to them until a certain point is reached. Once the candidate completes the hose drag he advances. The third event is the equipment carry. The candidate will pick up two saws out of a simulated compartment and walks with them. When returning the candidate puts them back into the compartment one at a time. The fourth event is the ladder raise and pull. The candidate raises a 24 ft extension ladder and then extends another ladder using the halyard. The fifth event is the forcible entry. This simulates forcing entry or breeching a wall. The sixth event is the search maze. The candidate crawls through the maze with some obstructions and comes out the other end. Event seven is the dummy drag. The candidate drags a 165 lb. dummy 70 feet. The eighth event is the ceiling breech and pull. The candidate will do four complete sets of pushing and pulling. The candidate has ten minutes and 20 seconds to comlete the testing. The 50 lb. vest and a hard hat and gloves are worn throughout the testing. The test is physically challenging. Stats: The first testing process the Fire Division ran was a practice test for all applicants. The candidates that participated were given a preparation guide to take with them to work on areas they lacked in for exercises. Then the candidate returnd for the final test eight weeks later. Out of the 40 applicants 27 passed the testing. The average time for completion was 9.09. Event 1 was the station where most candidates failed. The goal for the CPAT testing is to give every oppurtunity for the candidate to pass the testing.
